  1. Define your academic goals. Once you have identified the instructional goals you seek to achieve through your online or blended learning program, be sure use those goals to inform every step of the process. For more information click here.
  2. Help teachers understand their critical role. The technological component of any online or blended learning program is a powerful complement to face-to-face instruction, and—as in any classroom—the teacher is the single most important determining factor for student achievement. To learn more about the role of the teacher in a blended learning environment click here.
  3. Support the needs of all students. To ensure every student has the resources to achieve success, seek curriculum that offers interactive tools and scaffolds that support diverse student populations, including English language learners and students with special needs. For more information click here.
  4. Anticipate and respond to pushback. Sometimes change can be scary. Be prepared to listen to concerns, and respond with informative and educational materials that highlight the benefits of the new program, offer tips for success, and explain when and how the new program will be implemented.
  5. Innovate and adapt your program over time. Once your new online or blended learning program is in effect, it’s important to ensure that it is successful. Because change happens quickly, evaluate your program and identify what is working and what needs to be improved.
